Jennifer, Your Special Day Reaches for New Horizons

On This Special Day

On November 3, 1973, Mariner 10 launched from Cape Canaveral on a journey toward Venus and Mercury. The mission became the first to use another planet's gravity to redirect a spacecraft's path, allowing it to visit two worlds in one remarkable journey. It was also the first spacecraft to explore Mercury. After flying past Venus, the probe made three encounters with Mercury and returned thousands of photographs and other scientific measurements. Its inventive route demonstrated that gravity itself could become part of a mission's design. Mariner 10 showed how curiosity, careful planning, and a willingness to find a new path can turn a distant goal into meaningful discovery.

What This Day Invites
